This scene, among many others, is why I fell in love with this series. Its hero was a selfless kid who was kind to a fault, lacked self confidence, and was utterly loyal and devoted to his friends. It’s the kind of “character” I always thought everyone should be, and aspired to be myself. How often do you see that nowadays?
Yu-Gi-Oh Head Canon: Despite being grossly underweight, Seto Kaiba is an accomplished Soccer player and a Judo champion.
This was shown more in the second anime, as shown by the image provided. Gozaburo Kaiba knew the importance of a well rounded successor. He allowed for Seto to have certain hobbies. Music to stimulate all parts of the brain and sports for strategy and building his competitive drive. Soccer was an interest Seto had before meeting Gozaburo, which the man took advantage of. Judo was added so that Seto could gain even more confidence in himself and provided yet another line of defense to Gozaburo Kaiba’s heir.
(Alternative head canon is that Seto’s favorite soccer positions switched as he was exposed more to Gozaburo. Initially, he enjoyed switching it up and played a variety of positions, favoring the ones that were heavy on strategy with the team. As time went on, he began to favor more aggressive positions, especially anything related to a striker. If he was not scoring goals, he was not happy.)
